Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation Increases Support for St. Philip’s College Students to $400,000

St. Philip’s College celebrated the academic achievements of its students and the power of community partnership Sept. 1 during the Rey Feo Scholarship Recognition Reception at the Bowden Alumni Center.

The celebration highlighted a significant milestone in the college’s partnership with the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation. This year, the Foundation increased its scholarship contribution to St. Philip’s College from $200,000 to $400,000, providing critical financial support to students pursuing their educational and career goals.

St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston thanked the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation for its continued commitment to student success and emphasized the importance of scholarships in helping students overcome financial barriers.

“Your generosity is helping our students overcome financial barriers and remain focused on completing their education,” Loston said.

The reception brought together college leadership, scholarship recipients, families, Foundation representatives and members of the Rey Feo Royal Court to recognize the students benefiting from the Foundation’s investment.

Among the distinguished guests were Johnny Gabriel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation; Jennifer Barbaro, Co-Chairman and Executive Director of the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation; and Dr. Damaso Andres Oliva Jr., San Antonio’s 77th Rey Feo, along with members of his Royal Court. Members of the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation Board also attended the celebration.

For St. Philip’s College students, the scholarships represent more than financial assistance. They provide an opportunity to continue their education while managing the many financial responsibilities that can accompany college.

The scholarship recipients represent the diverse academic and career pathways available at St. Philip’s College. Students receiving support are pursuing programs across the college’s 30 workforce program areas, preparing for careers in high-demand fields throughout the region.

Through its workforce programs, St. Philip’s College prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the workforce, advance their careers and contribute to the economic vitality of the San Antonio community.

During the reception, scholarship recipients were invited to stand and be recognized for their accomplishments, receiving applause from college leadership, family members and guests.

Loston congratulated the students and encouraged them to recognize the significance of the opportunity before them.

“You have earned this recognition through your hard work, determination and commitment to your education,” Loston said. “I am confident that your talents, creativity and leadership will make a difference in our community.”

The $400,000 contribution underscores the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation’s longstanding commitment to education and its belief in the potential of San Antonio students. The partnership with St. Philip’s College continues to demonstrate how community organizations and educational institutions can work together to create opportunities and strengthen the future of the region.

As the celebration concluded, Loston thanked the Foundation, the Royal Court, families and supporters for investing in St. Philip’s College students.
