The inclusion of a statement of commitment will change how we disseminate information to our distance education students, as we will now include a statement that addresses the purpose of grade appeals and the process for executing grade appeals for distance learners.

Why Academic Standing Matters
Academic probation or dismissal can affect your ability to register for courses and may impact financial aid, veterans benefits or insurance coverage. Meet with your certified advisor if you have questions about your standing.
Academic Standing Categories
Good Standing
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Academic Probation
- Your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0.
- You must earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- You may be limited to 12 credit hours.
Continued Academic Probation
- You remain below a cumulative GPA of 2.0 after one semester on probation.
- You must meet all probation requirements until both semester and cumulative GPA reach 2.0.
Academic Dismissal Levels
First Academic Dismissal
- Occurs if semester GPA is below 2.0 while on probation.
- Must sit out one semester.
- Enrollment limited to 6–8 credit hours when approved.
- SDEV 0171 must be completed with a “C” or better if not already taken.
Second Academic Dismissal
- If your petitioning semester GPA is below 2.0, you must sit out a full 16-week semester.
- If re-enrolled, you are limited to 6–8 credit hours.
- SDEV 0171 required unless previously completed.
Third (Permanent) Academic Dismissal
- You must sit out a full academic year (Fall, Spring and Summer).
- Approval is not guaranteed.
