Dr. Veronica Garcia began her tenure as President of Northeast Lakeview College in March 2017. After joining the NLC’s leadership team, the College received initial accreditation and the ability to award federal financial aid and Veteran Benefits. This allowed for expansion of academic programs and student services to NLC’s service area, including northeast San Antonio and Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe Counties.
Her leadership strategy has contributed to many notable College achievements and recognitions. These include being recognized as one of the 10 Most Admired Colleges and Universities to Watch in 2018, and a 2019 Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges. Northeast Lakeview College was also recognized as one of 50 Best Community Colleges in the U.S., ranking 12th by Learn.org as a recognized school. In addition, the College received the 2019 Commitment Level Performance Excellence Award from the Quality Texas Foundation, and contributed to the Alamo Colleges District receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Valuing partnerships, Dr. Garcia has established relationships with local organizations, businesses, and schools. She is a member of the area’s regional economic development partnership, local chambers of commerce, attends rotary club meetings, and is engaged with representatives from the areas local Independent School Districts.
Dr. Garcia sits on the board of Hispanic Educational Technology Services and is a member of several other national and state higher education associations. She continues to research and present on topics regarding student engagement, leading system changes, systems thinking, financial literacy, and leveraging technology to improve student success.
Dr. Garcia has served in various senior leadership roles at community colleges in Arizona and Oregon. Her classroom experience and curriculum development has provided a foundation for her student advocacy. She is dedicated to improving and streamlining student intake services, and aligning academic and student services to enhance and foster student success. Her long-standing commitment to providing educational services to Veterans earned her the Service to Veterans Recognition Award in 2012 from Portland State University and Portland Community College.
Dr. Garcia’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Oregon State University, a M.Ed. in Leadership from Northern Arizona University, a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a Faculty Standard Certification.
