Student to Participate in Marine Biology Summer Program

Former NLC Student, Alexis Humphrey, was accepted for a Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore REU in Marine and Estuary Science. With the guidance of a faculty mentor, interns will conduct original research projects in one of a wide range of marine science topics.Students will work on their research in a variety of laboratories. Students will also gain hands-on experience through field experience at t he Maryland Coastal Bays, Chesapeake Bay, or Atlantic Ocean. Participants will present their research to their peers and mentors at a symposium at the Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center on the final day of the internship.

Alexis Humphrey transferred from Northeast Lakeview College in Fall 2016 and is currently studying Marine Biology at UT Austin. Ms. Humphrey’s will receive a stipend of $5250 paid bi-weekly over the course of the 10 week Summer program. 

 While at NLC, Alexis was an active member and leader of the Anthropology Club.  In the hopes of establishing a community garden, she took the initiative and started the Garden Club at NLC. Her ultimate goal is to become a researcher in the field of Chemistry.
