The Nursing Department at San Antonio College prepares students for careers in professional nursing through high-quality instruction, hands-on clinical experiences and a commitment to patient-centered care. Programs are designed to support student success while meeting workforce needs in the health care field.

Prospective Students

Information Sessions

The Nursing Department offers monthly information sessions for prospective students. Sessions are held at 2 p.m. in the NAHC Building, Room 218, with options to attend in person or via Zoom.

Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the nursing program are expected to demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Use clinical reasoning and judgment to provide safe, quality patient care.
  2. Communicate effectively with patients, families and members of the health care team.
  3. Apply evidence-based practices in clinical decision-making.
  4. Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior in health care settings.
  5. Provide patient-centered care that respects diverse populations.

Pathway for A.A.S. to BSN

  1. Generic Program or Career Mobility
  2. Graduate from nursing program
  3. Apply and pass the NCLEX-RN Licensure and earn RN License number
  4. Find a place of employment
  5. Complete remaining BSN prerequisites
  6. Apply for admission into the RN-BSN

Clinical and Simulation Learning

Students participate in supervised clinical experiences at area health care facilities and develop skills in simulation labs that replicate real-world patient care scenarios. These experiences help prepare graduates for the transition into professional practice.

Current Students

Current Students Hospital Orientation Exam

Ongoing students may take the Hospital Orientation Exam Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in NAHC 338.

Fall Renewal Period: The exam will be available in NAHC 338 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 19 through Sept. 6.

This testing window is intended for continuing students. New students will complete the Hospital Orientation Exam during the Nursing Program Mandatory Orientation.

Nursing ID Cards

Students should visit the ID office in the Fletcher Administration Building and indicate they are part of the nursing program. Students must wear their nursing uniform top and provide proof of class registration. IDs will be processed and distributed through the ID office.
