SAC Nursing Leader Appointed to Statewide Healthcare Workforce Advisory Board

Eve Rodriguez, executive director of the RN-to-BSN Program at San Antonio College, has been appointed by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to serve on the newly established Healthcare Workforce Advisory Board, a statewide group charged with developing solutions to address Texas' growing healthcare workforce shortages.

Created by the 89th Texas Legislature, the 13-member advisory board brings together leaders from higher education, healthcare organizations, workforce development boards, and community health centers to strengthen collaboration and help communities meet current and future healthcare workforce needs.

Rodriguez was selected to represent two-year urban institutions of higher education. Her appointment reflects her extensive experience in nursing education, academic leadership, and workforce development, as well as San Antonio College's longstanding role in preparing highly skilled healthcare professionals for Texas.

"This appointment is a testament not only to Dr. Rodriguez's leadership and expertise, but also to San Antonio College's century-long commitment to educating the healthcare professionals who serve our communities," said Dr. Francisco Solis, president of San Antonio College. "As healthcare needs continue to evolve across Texas, it is essential that community colleges have a seat at the table. SAC and the Alamo Colleges are uniquely positioned to respond quickly to workforce demands, expand educational pathways, and prepare graduates who are ready to make an immediate impact."

The advisory board will develop a collaboration toolkit and resource guide designed to strengthen partnerships among healthcare providers, workforce development boards, and institutions of higher education. These resources will help communities identify local workforce challenges and create strategies to recruit, educate, and retain healthcare professionals across Texas.

"I am excited to work alongside leaders from across Texas to develop solutions to mitigate the shortage of healthcare workers throughout the state before it becomes critical. Rodriguez joins representatives from community colleges, public universities, hospital systems, professional healthcare organizations, community health centers, and local workforce development boards across Texas. Together, the board will help guide statewide efforts to The Healthcare Workforce Advisory Board held its inaugural meeting on June 25 and will meet periodically throughout the year as it develops its recommendations. The board's final collaboration toolkit and resource guide will be submitted to the Texas Legislature by Nov. 1, 2026.
