Elementary School Camps

San Antonio’s Got Talent: ASL Music Camp

Students in this camp will work with experienced music interpreters to learn age-appropriate songs in American Sign Language culminating with a performance at the end of the week. The participants will learn ASL vocabulary, choreography, and performance skills.

Dates: June 3 – 6 or June 10 – 13, 2019
Times: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Scobee Education Center – Micronauts: Go Tech!

Blast off on an amazing journey into STEM and Space Exploration. This camp will make giant leaps in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), while learning about space exploration. Campers will participate in innovative robotics challenges, coding and take part in space-themed interactive experiences. Learn more.

Cost: $200 before May 10 / $250 after May 10
Ages: Kindergarten to 2nd Grade

Scobee Education Center – Astronauts in Training

One small step for man, one giant leap for Micronauts. This camp will explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), while learning about space exploration. Campers will experience the planetarium, develop team building through design challenges, use technology to learn basic coding as they design a mission to the Moon and Mars. Learn more.

From STEM to STEAM Through 3D Geometry

During this one-day camp, students will go on a journey of discovery in the wonderful world of 3-D Geometry and Polyhedron Models; from Leonardo da Vinci to Bucky Fuller; from Albert Einstein to Steve Jobs. And then, students will build some amazing models of their very own.

Dates: June 25, 2019 or June 26, 2019
Times: 9 am – 4 pm

Ages: Elementary & Middle School, Grades 3 – 8, Ages 8 –14

Scobee Education Center – Cosmic Kids Camp

This camp will explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), while learning about space exploration. Campers will explore the Apollo Moon landings, characteristics of the moon, embark in robotics challenges on the surface of the moon, explore coding, and take a virtual reality trip to the moon. The camp will investigate STEM in Space today as learn about STEM on Station and living and working in space. Campers will also experience a simulated space flight in the Challenger Center simulators and view shows in the Scobee Planetarium. Learn more.

Eco Kids Summer Camp

Prepare to play in the dirt! This camp will explore ecology concepts, learn how to grow organic food, measure water quality and become environmental stewards. Our hands-on activities will familiarize campers with permaculture, pollinators, and fresh produce. Campers will work in the garden, volunteer at the Alta Visa Food Forest, relax in the San Pedro Springs Pool, and prep food from the gardens. Plus, there will be time to sneak in movies, water play, and other summer fun!  

Dates: June 3 – 7, 2019 
Time: 8:15 am to 5:30 pm
Cost: $150 / $125 for siblings

Morning Garden Camp

Join our fantastic garden team at the Madonna Center Community Garden for hands-on gardening and cooking. We will learn about organic gardening and urban farming. And, we will make our own meals sourced from the garden. Camp participants will explore gardening practices and urban farming, from planting seeds to caring for and preserving the harvest. As well, campers will learn healthy eating and cooking habits, and will acquire the skills and materials to create gardens and grow food. Plus, they will have fun with art and play other games.

Middle School Camps

3D Modeling and Sculpting

This four-day camp teaches students how to use inexpensive software to model structures and mechanical objects in the morning session and how to sculpt creatures and other natural shapes in the afternoon session.

Ages: Middle School, Grades 6 – 8, Ages 11 – 13

3D Scanning and Printing

This four-day camp teaches students how to use cell phones and other camera- equipped devices along with inexpensive software to scan people and artifacts in 3D during the morning sessions and how to prep and 3D print digital objects and how to create molds and casts in silicone and resin during the afternoon sessions.

Lights, Camera, Action: Be A TV Star

Produce a TV program, be an on-camera anchor, or direct a show behind-the-scenes in this interactive one-week camp. View the newscast on inTV The Education Channel (Spectrum, AT&T U-Verse, Grande, or Google fiber). Plus, take home a copy of the newscast to share with family and friends.

(Note: Parents must sign a release form giving permission for their child(s) image, likeness, and voice to be combined with other participants to be shown on inTV The Education Channel of the City of San Antonio PEG channel, and distributed to all participants for their personal viewing.) 

Middle School Writing Project

This two-week camp is a reflection of the National Writing Project for younger participants. Students will begin the day with personal writing, reflecting on a short literary piece or short film. Students will build their confidence in writing and reading and will develop their writing voice, including writing stories and poetry.

Session II: July 1 – 3, July 8 – 11, and July 15

3D Terraining and Animation

This four-day camp teaches students how to use inexpensive hardware and software to create digital landscapes in the morning session and how to animate simple 3D scenes in the afternoon session.

The one-day Girls STEM Summit will provide middle school and high school girls the opportunity to meet with scientists, engineers and other women professionals. This is a free event sponsored by San Antonio College and the Scobee Education Center. Space is limited to 100 young ladies. RSVP now

Academic Writing Boot Camp

Learn the basics of academic writing and how to write an academic essay that is logically organized, effectively developed, and clearly written.

GenCyber Camp

The GenCyber Camp at SAC is funded by the GenCyber grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Security Agency (NSA). It will explore the basic points of cyber security. Interested students will also learn how they might join the Alamo Academies ITSA program for their junior and senior years of high school.
