Priscilla Perez Named the NVC 2026 Fiesta Medal Winner
February 24, 2026
SAN ANTONIO - Northwest Vista College is proud to announce Priscilla Perez as the winner of the 2026 NVC Fiesta Medal design contest. Her winning artwork captures the heart of the campus, incorporating vibrant Texas wildflowers and outdoor themes to symbolize the deep sense of belonging found at NVC.
For Perez, the victory was unexpected. "It was my first time ever entering a contest," she shared. "I was truly surprised I won."
A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Perez is the first of five siblings to attend college. Her path to NVC began with a chance meeting with Omar Chavira from the NVC Dual Credit team, who once worked at Jefferson High. For the past two years, Chavira has served as a cornerstone of her support network, helping her navigate the complexities of higher education.
"It can be confusing stepping on campus your first semester with so many opportunities being thrown your way," Perez noted. "But I'm inspired because I have a support system from my family and Omar. Now, I get to show my nieces and nephews that they, too, can go to college."
The $500 prize comes at a perfect time for Perez, who currently commutes between three different Alamo Colleges. The funds will help cover gas expenses as she completes her prerequisite courses at NVC.
Looking ahead, Perez plans to enroll in the Radiography Technologist program at St. Philip’s College. Her success with the 2026 Fiesta Medal is just the latest milestone in a journey defined by hard work, community support, and a commitment to her family’s future.

Northwest Vista College, part of the Alamo Colleges District, opened in 1995 with 12 students and has grown to more than 22,000 students. Located in Westover Hills, NVC’s expanding agreements with business and higher education partnerships provide a wealth of opportunities for students and the community.
