Northwest Vista College Announces Key Leadership Appointments

Northwest Vista College (NVC) is proud to announce the appointment of three key leaders to our executive team. These individuals bring a wealth of experience, academic rigor, and a deep commitment to student success.
Dr. Sanjuanita Scott – Vice President for Student Success
Vice President for Student Success Dr. Sanjuanita Scott is a dedicated community college practitioner who leads enrollment, advising, counseling, student life, and completion initiatives.
Throughout her 25-year tenure at NVC, Dr. Scott has been dedicated to advancing student success through her roles as Director of Strategic Initiatives, Associate Director of Student Activities, and other administrative functions. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping the college’s strategic plan and enrollment management.
Beyond NVC, Dr. Scott’s experience includes graduate and financial aid advising at UT San Antonio. Most recently, she was selected for the prestigious Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ Leadership Academy.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from UT San Antonio, a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Webster University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Community College Leadership from Old Dominion University.
Dr. Scott enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and two daughters – both of whom are proud NVC alumni.
Dr. George Gittinger – Interim Vice President for College Services
Dr. George Gittinger serves as the Interim Vice President for College Services, overseeing budget, Information Technology, Institutional Research, marketing, and facilities. With over a decade at NVC, Dr. Gittinger previously served as the Dean of Performance Excellence and an Associate Professor of Philosophy.
Before joining NVC, he managed large-scale operations in the test preparation industry and assisted Tulane University with accreditation. At NVC, he remains a champion for students, serving as the advisor for the Dungeons and Dragons club.
His research interests include productive argumentation and the rhetoric surrounding bioweapons and policy threats.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Tulane University, a Master of Arts in Philosophy, a Master of Arts in Communication, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons, balancing his time between spreadsheets and family.
Sabrina Carey – Interim Dean for Performance Excellence
Sabrina Carey is a strategic leader with over 20 years of experience in higher education, bridging academic excellence with operational efficiency. Currently serving as the Interim Dean for Performance Excellence at Northwest Vista College, she directs initiatives that elevate institutional service and performance standards.
Prior to this role, Ms. Carey was the Department Chair for English & INRW – one of NVC’s largest academic units – where she led a team of more than 60 faculty and staff and also served as a mentor for students. Her background spans executive-level administration, event coordination, and faculty roles, all defined by a commitment to data-informed decision-making and collaborative leadership.
A certified examiner for the Texas Award for Performance Excellence, Ms. Carey applies high-quality standards to enhance college outcomes. She has a proven track record of aligning departmental goals with organizational priorities to produce measurable results that support student success. Ms. Carey is dedicated to developing faculty and staff, building cross-college partnerships, and cultivating an environment of excellence and continuous improvement. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from George Mason University.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, cooking, and spending time with family, friends, and her dogs.

Northwest Vista College, part of the Alamo Colleges District, opened in 1995 with 12 students and has grown to more than 22,000 students.
