Sing Out: From Praise to Promise
Voices rise first in joy—unrestrained, generous, and shared. In this program, song becomes both offering and commitment, moving from moments of praise toward a deeper promise of connection, compassion, and hope. Under the baton of Dr. Minkyung Lee, the NVC Concert Choir invites listeners to experience how singing can reflect who we are and who we aspire to be, together.
The opening half of the program celebrates the sheer freedom and vitality of singing. These works remind us that to sing is to affirm life—to release energy, gratitude, and trust into the world. Sing Out, My Soul opens with an unguarded invitation to lift the voice without hesitation, while Jubilate Deo keeps praise in motion, dancing with lightness and rhythmic joy. As the section continues, the music leans gently toward honesty and renewal. Trading My Sorrows offers a moment of honest testimony, acknowledging hardship while choosing trust and healing, and framing praise as presence—singing fully, just as we are.
In the second half of the program, the voice turns outward. What began as praise now becomes purpose, as music speaks not only for the singer, but for the community. In Songs for the People, music itself becomes a shared strength, reminding us that voices are most powerful when they rise together. That shared energy grows into resolve in Soon We Will Be Done, arranged by Kyle Pederson, where familiar words are carried with strength and determination, reminding us of music’s power to inspire courage and hope. A moment of stillness follows in A Place Between Us by Michael John Trotta, where close harmonies and attentive listening create space for connection and understanding.
The concert closes with a powerful expression of continuity and celebration. In collaboration with the Hobby Middle School Choir and Rawlinson Middle School Choir, the NVC Concert Choir presents Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down as a shared declaration of hope. Singing together across generations, these voices embody mentorship in action—celebrating where music begins, how it grows, and how its promise is passed forward through community. -
