Cybersecurity Awareness Month is recognized each October to promote safer online habits and help individuals understand the important role they play in protecting information, accounts, and digital systems.
At San Antonio College, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Staying safe online isn’t about making one perfect decision. It’s about building smart habits and practicing them consistently in the small moments that happen every day. Using strong passwords, enabling multifactor authentication, recognizing suspicious messages, and keeping software updated can make it much harder for cybercriminals to succeed.

Featured Speaker: Bill GonzalezOctober 12, 2026 | 10 am - 11 am | NAHC 218 A/BBill is a technology expert with nearly 30 years of experience in computer science, data science, software development, and emerging technologies. As founder of Webhead’s Software Factory, he has led advanced projects in cloud computing, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data analytics for commercial and government clients. Bill also specializes in quantum computing and quantum information science, with advanced training from MIT xPRO and QWorld and ongoing research in quantum machine learning, image processing, and optimization. Session: Quantum Security from Post-Quantum Cryptography(PQC) and Quantum Key Distribution(QKD) to Secure Quantum Networks. This session provides an overview of quantum security while separating practical risks from the surrounding hype. Topics will include Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), known quantum threats, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) algorithms, and progress toward secure quantum networks. The session will also cover cryptographic inventory, crypto-agility, and initial guidance for adopting PQC. |

SAC HACK is a Capture the Flag (CTF) competition where participants solve a series of cybersecurity challenges across Open-Source Intelligence, Cryptography, Reverse Engineering, Forensics, and Web/Binary Exploitation. Hosted by the San Antonio College Computer Information Systems Department. Open to all SAC Students. Door Prizes for each event.

This short, 30-minute online module covers practical cybersecurity basics for students, including strong passwords, phishing awareness, safe network use, protecting personal information, and recognizing suspicious online activity. (Open to SAC Students)

Your personal security and the nation's security depend on making secure online decisions. Making the Internet safer and more secure requires us to take responsibility for our cybersecurity posture.
