Benjamin Romo Named Director of disABILITY Support Services

Benjamin is the new director of disABILITY Support Services

As director, Romo is responsible for ensuring academic accommodations, as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act as amended (ADAAA) for registered students.

Other areas of responsibility include oversight of disability Support Services programs, support staff, departmental budgets, and the development of strategic planning to enhance department offerings.

BRomo web.jpgRomo was previously a student compliance coordinator with the Alamo Colleges District, responsible for coordinating district and cross-college student programs and processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Prior to arriving at the Alamo Colleges District, he spent nine years working in various roles with the Department of Family Protective Services where he performed highly complex investigations involving physical and sexual abuse, neglect and exploitation of disabled individuals living in their home or in state funded facilities or programs.

A U.S. Army veteran, Romo was a member of the military police and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Hanau, Germany, where he did vehicular and foot patrol, responding to traffic accidents, domestic disturbances and conducted security checks of businesses, homes, and schools.

Romo holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Austin Community College, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Texas State University, and a master’s degree in criminal justice leadership and management from Sam Houston State University.
