Registration for 2025 Academic School Year and Summer Programs
The Scobee Planetarium, Challenger Learning Center and Santikos Micronaut Center programs are aligned to the Texas TEKS for integration into teachers' regular curriculum requirements. Classroom teachers or curriculum leaders for schools will be required to complete a registration form with the approval of their administrators to secure program dates and times. The fees for these programs have been held constant through our ten years of operation and we have sought out funders to provide limited classroom scholarships to help students and teachers benefit from these unique experiences.
Classroom program scholarships:
A few SAWS scholarships for Micronaut missions are still available, if your K-3rd grade class is in a school that is a SAWS customer.
We have received the Najim Charitable Foundation scholarship for TEA qualified Title I schools to also obtain classroom funding for Challenger, Micronaut and Scobee planetarium program combinations. Our scheduling specialist, Lynn Linkes, can provide more information as your classes submit registrations. Title I schools receiving these scholarships must be from the following counties: Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, or Wilson.
There are very limited times and dates still available for this school year with more flexibility for summer programming.
The 2024-25 registration forms and program descriptions are available for download through the related sections of this web site for the Scobee Planetarium, Challenger Learning Center, and Santikos Micronaut Center. Teachers, administrators, and district curriculum specialists may also email sac-scobeectr@alamo.edu or call 210-486-0100 for more information.
Teacher pre-mission workshop If a teacher's class has been scheduled for either a Challenger or Micronaut mission and you missed the pre-mission training, call or email Mariana Zoll at mzoll3@alamo.edu.
The Artemis Academy Summer Camp
The Artemis Academy is a coed summer camp for rising 5th, 6th and 7th graders who will be in middle school in the fall of 2025. This unique summer camp is a two-phase STEM program that begins with three afterschool virtual STEM club meetings on Wednesday, March 26th, April 23rd, and May 28th. Each of these programs will introduce our campers to exceptional STEM professionals from the Astra Femina organization who will share insights into their respective professions and emphasize the skills needed to be successful in their careers. The virtual speaker for March 26th will be Sr. Program Director for the International Space Station, Dr. Liz Warren.
The weeklong in-person summer camp will take place July 14th through July 18th, 2025, from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Scobee Education Center at San Antonio College. In addition to Challenger mission and planetarium programs, hands-on, engaging activities that are designed to promote problem-solving, and teamwork will be presented by Scobee’s team of educators and special guests.
This camp is sponsored, in part, by AFCEA to reduce the $50 fees required for attendance. The Marketplace site for registration is now open and more than 50% filled.
