2020-2021 Student Trustee

Darius F. Martin

Darius is currently pursuing an Associate's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He is an active member of Collegiate 100, a chartered support organization that serves to nurture and enhance the growth and development of young men and women of color. Through the organization, he mentors and guides the Early College High School students on professional development skills and college readiness. In addition to mentoring, Darius participates in various community service activities such as volunteering with Wealth Between Us. While interviewing for the position Darius said that he believes “leaders should eat last,” furthermore stating that, “to me, this means that I am willing to sacrifice myself for the greater good of the group I am serving.”

Amira Johnson

Johnson is currently pursuing an Associate of Arts in Theatre Performance. She is involved in several campus organizations, including Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Student Government Association and the Music and Arts Club.

Johnson hopes to use her platform to promote community engagement, student leadership, and mental health awareness. “I look forward to starting conversations that surround current issues in our community such as suicide, depression and racism. I also want to encourage my peers and be a good example for those around me,” she said.

Fall 2020 Presidential Scholar

Carolina Gutierrez

Carolina spends time volunteering at SA Youth Literacy, a non-profit organization that provides one-to-one reading assistance to elementary children in San Antonio. She also dedicates time volunteering at March of Dimes, where she participates in donor outreach, data entry and works with local hospitals to gather baby supplies.

Tambra Staley

Tambra's service to the community includes her involvement with the National Federation of the Blind, San Antonio Chapter. In working with the organization, she attends monthly meetings where they plan game nights, convention schedules and other activities for the blind in the community

Jalisa Terrazas

Jalisa is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the official honor society for two-year colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges. Jalisa volunteers at the San Antonio Food Bank where she helps sort and package meals that are delivered to community members.
