About the Program

The criminal justice pre-major is designed to provide students with a basic foundation in criminal justice. Students will gain a broad understanding of the historical and philosophical basis of criminal law as well as the substantive and procedural aspects. The jurisdiction, organization, function, and philosophy of state and federal court systems are examined. Correctional systems and police systems are studied.

The criminal justice field of study curriculum has been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

 

What will I learn?

Students will learn problem solving skills, research skills, and communication skills.

What can I do with this course of study?

Who employs criminal justice majors? Federal, state, & local government agencies; military agencies; defense agencies; security companies; businesses and retail stores; colleges and universities; law firms; banks; hospitals; airports; public interest advocacy.

What is special about this program?

The classes are no more than 25 students. This allows for excellent student/faculty interaction. The criminal justice faculty have experience in corrections, probation, law enforcement, and law and the courts.
