Civic Activity

NLC Serves

NLC serves the community in a variety of ways.  This includes civic engagement, volunteering, and more. Volunteering at Northeast Lakeview College helps not only the students; it provides many rewards for the volunteers as well.Volunteer service experiences nurture and instill the spirit of servant leadership by promoting community service opportunities for NLC students and employees. Volunteers help all over the campus. Some work directly with students throughout the semester, one-on-one and in small groups. Others work on special projects over the course of the year or assist with cultural programs and events, many of which are happening because of the leadership of volunteers. "Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

On the NLC campus, we have several professors who integrate a service-learning component within their courses. There are also opportunities for students to propose an extra credit service-learning project to their instructor.

Volunteering is a student's decision to give their time to perform a service without compensation.
