About Languages

Students will learn the fundamentals of various languages through the development of the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Culture will be highlighted throughout. Several levels are usually taught.

Course Descriptions

Chinese

This is a introduction to the fundamentals of the Chinese language and culture in order to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Language lab is required. We offer Elementary Chinese I & II. Language lab is required.

French

We offer introductory and intermediate courses that presents the fundamentals of the French language and culture in order to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. (Elementary French I, II & Intermediate French I,II) Language lab is required. Our intermediate courses provides additional development of language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Short literary selections are introduced in a context of French culture and civilization. This course fulfills the Language, Philosophy, and Culture foundational component area of the core, and addresses the following required objectives: Critical Thinking, Communication, Social Responsibility, and Personal Responsibility. Elementary French I & II is offered at all Alamo Colleges. However, Intermediate French I & II is offered at NVC, NLC, SAC, SPC. Not offered at PAC.

German

Introductory course that presents the fundamentals of the German language and culture in order to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. We offer Elementary German I & II. Language lab is required These courses are offered at NVC, NLC, SAC, SPC. Not offered at PAC.

Japanese

Introductory course that presents the fundamentals of the Japanese language and culture in order to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. We offer Elementary Japanese I & II. Language lab is required These courses are offered at NVC, SAC. Not offered at NLC, PAC, SPC.

Spanish

Students will learn the fundamentals of Spanish through the development of the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Hispanic culture will be highlighted throughout. A wide variety of Spanish courses are offered, including Conversational, Elementary and Intermediate Spanish, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, and Career Spanish (Medical).
