NVC Graduate Gives Back Through Service on Alumni Board

January 29, 2026

Jazlyn Mazick still remembers the day that she and her best friend jumped into each other’s arms when they found out their applications to the Northwest Vista College (NVC) Wildcats Alumni Association Board had been accepted. Mazick, who graduated from NVC in 2016 with an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science, has been the vice president of the Wildcats Alumni Board of Directors since 2022. She said joining the Alumni Board has given her the opportunity to give back to NVC and see firsthand the positive impact the organization has on students, staff, and faculty.

“As the vice president of the NVC Alumni Association, I have the privilege of representing thousands of lives that have been positively impacted by this college,” she said. “This is a very special place, forever changing lives for the better by bringing hope and prosperity to our community. I know this firsthand, because I am one of those lives.”

Mazick credits NVC with paving the way to opportunities she never imagined. She believes the campus resources, organizational training, and support she received from professors, faculty, and staff made all the difference. Mazick’s advice to current Wildcats is to make sure to form relationships with peers, professors, and advisory staff. “They will be your lifeline to success once you leave NVC,” she said.

Like many students, Mazick had to work while attending classes at NVC, and to help with costs, she applied for several scholarships. While a student at NVC, she received the Semmes Scholarship, Abengoa STEM Scholarship, General Foundation Scholarship, and the NVC Alumni Association Scholarship.

Since 2013, a total of $9,730 from the NVC Alumni Association Scholarship fund has been awarded to 20 Northwest Vista students. The award amounts range from $200 to $1,000 with the average gift being $500. The annual scholarship is open to full-time and part-time NVC students in any major who have at least 2.5 GPA.

After graduating from Northwest Vista College, Mazick continued her education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2020. Today, she’s a quality assurance engineer at Pronetx.

“Northwest Vista has opened many doors for me in my professional career that I would have never imagined as a student fresh out of high school,” she said. “This is a school that cares for and loves its students.”
