Investing in San Antonio’s Digital Future: Microsoft Investment Helps NVC Students

Northwest Vista College (NVC) has secured a $250,000 donation from Microsoft to launch its "Emerging Technologies Project." This investment serves as a catalyst for the new School of Emerging Technologies (SET), launching at NVC’s Rogers Run location in preparation for the move to Port San Antonio. SET focuses on high-growth fields like cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI.

As one of only 15 Microsoft Datacenter Academies in North America, NVC provides students with an elite pipeline into the digital economy. The funding from Microsoft’s Datacenter Community Affairs area directly impacts student success by:

  • Upgrading Labs: A significant portion of the funds is dedicated to industry-grade computing labs where students train on hyperscale hardware.
  • Removing Financial Barriers: The gift covers certification vouchers (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+) and student labor stipends for paid, hands-on experience.
  • Driving Economic Mobility: The partnership provides mentorship from Microsoft professionals and scholarships for students.

By the 2027-2028 academic year, at least 500 students are expected to benefit from these enhanced high-tech spaces, preparing them for high-paying careers in San Antonio’s expanding data center sector.

"This Microsoft investment is more than a donation; it is a catalyst for our students’ futures," said NVC President Dr. Amy Bosley. "We are ensuring our graduates are not just ready for the workforce—they are the elite talent prepared to lead our city's rapidly expanding digital economy."
