NVC Celebrates Cypress Campus Center with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

On Sept. 8, Northwest Vista College President Dr. Amy Bosley welcomed members of the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees, Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores, partners, and community members to a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the reopening of the newly renovated Cypress Campus Center. The project stands as a testament to the Board’s leadership and the community bond-funded investment to expand opportunity across the District and throughout San Antonio.

Originally opened in 2009, Cypress served as the bustling, central hub for the NVC student community for over a decade. Its doors closed temporarily in 2020 when the Student Success team transitioned to the Desert Willow Welcome Center, sparking years of eager anticipation across campus for its return. This grand re-imagining was ultimately made possible by Bexar County voters, who approved a 2017 multimillion-dollar Capital Improvement Project to fund transformative facility upgrades across the Alamo Colleges District.

NVC isn’t just celebrating the reopening of a physical 42,355-square-foot building; it’s celebrating a completely transformed vision for how it serves the campus community.

Over the years, NVC students often had to travel from building to building just to find their tutors. Those days are officially over.

Everything is now centrally housed right here under one roof in the newly minted Vista Learning Hub. This innovative space was designed to prioritize student learning, foster rich collaboration, and equip students with the exact tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

The Vista Learning Hub brings together NVC’s premier integrated tutoring services into a single, cohesive powerhouse, including:

• The Writing Center
• Redbud Learning Center
• Math Lab
• Math Advocacy Center
• STEM Space
• An expanded Makerspace
  
  

The revival of the Cypress Campus Center also answers several long-standing campus needs:

• Cafeteria and Dining Area: While Cypress was offline, dining venues had to be spread out across the campus. The newly reimagined cafeteria features a full-fledged kitchen. This means NVC can finally offer students and employees fantastic new menu options alongside a vibrant, central place to refuel and connect.
  
  
• Lago Room: The expansion of beautiful new options, such as the Lago Room, opens the door wide for NVC’s internal community and external partners to gather, collaborate, and fully enjoy the scenic campus.
  
  
• Dynamic Study Areas & Upgraded Makerspace: Modern study lounges provide students with a high-tech environment to collaborate on group projects. A major highlight of these areas is the expanded Makerspace. In this larger, upgraded facility, students can test their most creative and innovative concepts with hands-on tools, 3D printing, and high-tech equipment.
  
  

Beyond the technological and structural updates, this space has been infused with beauty through the artwork adorning its walls. Every single piece you see was created by NVC students, alumni, faculty, and local community artists.
