VISTA SINGS! The Northwest Vista College Music program in the Fine and Performing Arts department presents Voice Events for Fall 2026 featuring guest artist series, workshops and live performances at Palmetto Center for the Arts.

Four artists come together for an evening celebrating the artistry, character, and imagination of composers whose music continues to connect performers and audiences across generations. Soprano Dr. Minkyung Lee, baritone Dr. Phillip Hill, and pianists Prof. Rick Rowley and Dr. Eun Joo Fierro bring their individual voices and musical perspectives to a program spanning Monteverdi, Mozart, Poulenc, Carlisle Floyd, Donizetti, Granados, and Gershwin.
Monteverdi opens the evening with an intimate duet from L’incoronazione di Poppea, followed by Poulenc’s Sonata for Four Hands, in which the two pianists share the keyboard in a vibrant musical dialogue. The voices then move through the dramatic worlds of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, bringing contrasting characters and emotions to life.
Poulenc’s Sonata for Four Hands and Grainger’s Porgy and Bess Fantasy for Two Pianos showcase the collaborative artistry of the two pianists, whose playing intertwines across two distinct works and musical worlds. The soprano and baritone bring a complementary vocal partnership to the program, portraying characters and relationships through opera scenes by Monteverdi, Mozart, and Gershwin.
Granados’s Los Requiebros offers a moment of individual expression as the piano takes center stage, while Gershwin’s Summertime brings the soprano into the expressive world of Porgy and Bess. The evening concludes with two of Mozart’s beloved comic ensembles from Le nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte, celebrating the wit, energy, and joyful interplay that have made his music timeless.
From solo performance to intimate duet, from four hands at one piano to four artists sharing the stage, Together celebrates both the individuality of each artist and the extraordinary possibilities that emerge when musicians listen and create together.
Texas Two-Year College Choral Directors Association Region V All-State Choir Auditions

Dr. Minkyung Lee, a Texas Two-Year College Choral Directors Association Region V representative, is delighted to announce hosting TTCCDA Region V All-State Choir Auditions at Northwest Vista College. This is a significant event where the NVC Chamber singers and selected voice students from the music department at NVC will prepare to compete with singers from the following schools: Del Mar College, Wharton County Junior College, Coastal Bend College, Laredo Junior College, Palo Alto College, and St. Phillips College, San Antonio College, and Victoria College. The All-State Choir will be under the guidance of the esteemed guest conductor, Dr. Cristian Grases from the University of Southern California, the Thornton School, during the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention in San Antonio in February 2027.

Join Dr. Minkyung Lee for an engaging master class designed to help advanced singers prepare with confidence for auditions and upcoming performances. The session will explore thoughtful repertoire selection, effective audition preparation, stage presence, and professional performance etiquette for both solo and ensemble settings.
Selected singers will have the opportunity to perform and receive individualized feedback in a supportive learning environment. With Dr. Eun Joo Fierro providing collaborative piano support, singers will be able to work directly on musical preparation, interpretation, and performance communication. The master class will serve as valuable preparation for the NVC Honors Recital and upcoming auditions, helping students develop practical skills, strengthen their artistic presentation, and gain a clearer understanding of what makes a successful and compelling audition.

VOICES OF HOME: THE PROMISE OF LIVING

This fall, the NVC Chamber Singers are delighted to welcome singers from Texarkana College for a special musical collaboration as we prepare together for the 2027 Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir. This collaboration gives our students the opportunity to learn from one another, experience new musical perspectives, and build connections through the shared experience of making music together.
We are delighted to welcome Marc-André Bougie as guest composer and choral director, sharing his music and artistic vision with our singers. A distinguished composer, conductor, and educator, Dr. Bougie has served as Associate Professor of Music at Texarkana College since 2007 and as Music Director and Conductor of the Texarkana Regional Chorale since 2004. His music has been performed throughout North America and abroad, including at Carnegie Hall. As both a composer and educator, he brings a unique perspective to our singers, connecting the creative process of composition with the discipline and artistry of choral performance. Having the opportunity to work directly with the composer of several works on this program makes this collaboration a particularly meaningful part of our students' musical journey.
Our musical journey begins under the baton of Marc-André Bougie, whose music and artistic vision bring the NVC Chamber Singers and Texarkana College singers together. From the mystery and contemplation of Daniel Elder's Ballad to the Moon, through the vibrant rhythms of Sydney Guillaume's Twa Tanbou and the prayerful Salve Regina by César Alejandro Carrillo, we explore how individual voices become a community. Bougie's Benedictus and Gloria continue this journey, with Dr. Aurelia Rocha on cello adding an intimate instrumental voice to the Benedictus before the Gloria brings the opening to a joyful celebration.
We then turn inward to the individual voice. Ave Maria and Bougie's cello solo offer moments of personal expression, followed by Aaron Copland's Zion's Walls, Ching-a-ring Chaw, and I Bought Me a Cat, which reveal spirituality, playfulness, humor, and storytelling within American folk tradition. Laurie's Aria from The Tender Land brings a more personal longing—the desire to discover what lies beyond the familiar and to find one's place in the world.
For the final part of our journey, Dr. Minkyung Lee takes the baton, leading the singers through Copland's musical landscape. The Boatmen's Dance, Simple Gifts, and At the River carry us through movement, memory, simplicity, and transition, culminating in The Promise of Living from The Tender Land, with Dr. Marc-André Bougie and Dr. Eunjoo Fierro at the pianos. Here, individual voices become one in a celebration of home, community, hope, and possibility. -

Open to the World: Where Every Voice Belongs
The Northwest Vista College Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Minkyung Lee, invites you to experience Open to the World: Where Every Voice Belongs–a celebration of music that crosses cultures, languages, and generations.
This Fall 2026 program explores the many ways music connects us. From the vibrant rhythms of Mexican folk tradition in El Cascabel to the powerful African musical traditions of Christopher Tin's Waloyo Yamoni and Baba Yetu, the repertoire invites us to listen with curiosity and discover the universal themes of hope, resilience, faith, and community that unite us.
The program continues with the beloved American classic Bridge Over Troubled Water, offering a timeless message of compassion and standing beside one another, before concluding with My Shot from Hamilton—a spirited celebration of courage, opportunity, and finding one's voice.
Opening the program with J. David Moore's A Few Gentle Admonitions and Dan Forrest's The Music of Living, the choir invites us to be present, embrace new perspectives, and celebrate the gift of making music together.
More than a collection of songs, Open to the World: Where Every Voice Belongs reflects the spirit of the Northwest Vista College community. Our singers bring diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to the ensemble, discovering that true harmony does not require us to be the same. Instead, it emerges when we listen to one another, value our differences, and allow every voice to contribute to something greater.

We return to the vibrant spirit of El Cascabel, inviting everyone to feel the rhythm and energy of Mexican musical tradition. Baba Yetu carries us across continents through the beauty of the Swahili language, reminding us that music can communicate across every border. With Bridge Over Troubled Water, we share a timeless message of compassion and standing beside one another, before bringing our celebration to a joyful close with My Shot from Hamilton—a reminder to find our voices, embrace our opportunities, and step boldly into the future.

LOH AmphitheaterIt's Showtime at NVC! The sixth annual Musical Theatre Contest brings together top vocal talents for a vibrant showcase of Broadway’s most beloved solos and ensembles. This high-energy afternoon—hosted by Dr. Minkyung Lee—celebrates the expressive range, dramatic flair, and stage magic of NVC’s finest performers. The audience will cast their votes for the Audience Choice Award, with the winner returning for an encore at the Concert Choir Outdoor Performance on Wednesday, December 2nd. Expect an afternoon of excitement, storytelling, and pure theatrical magic!
