Associate of Arts

After 30 years since graduating high school, I decided to return to college to obtain my associate degree. I was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, and my husband and I decided that after our children had all graduated, we were going to move. This also meant leaving the children to begin their journey in college and spread their wings, but I learned to spread my wings as well.

I was not always the best student in high school, so I was terrified to return to school. Once I got started at NVC, I had the best professors ever and an amazing community. This allowed me to push myself harder and step out of my comfort zone. I have never been so proud to tell people where I go to college, and so proud of myself.

This has been an amazing journey, and I will be transferring to UT San Antonio in fall 2026. I have not only been able to prove to myself that, even at my age (almost 50), you can do it. My twin daughters are in college as well, so it is so neat that we all get to attend college at the same time, even if it is five hours away. We are able to encourage one another daily, as not all days are easy.
