Lonnie Ousley Jr. began his journey at Northwest Vista College in the fall of 2024. Ousley is setting his sights on a career in advertising and public relations, and he believes the resources available at NVC will help him achieve his goals.

Q: Describe a moment when a piece of data, a grade, or feedback completely changed your direction?

A: I once got an extremely low grade on a test due to me not studying and my inconsistency. I won't lie, that grade stung. It stung not because of my lack of prep, but from the constant reminder in the back of my head that I could do better. I took that exact energy I felt from that shortcoming and remixed it into something positive that I could apply not only to my future assignments, but to my career as well.

Q: Beyond the degree itself, what is the ‘invisible' skill you developed at NVC that you believe will be your greatest asset in the workforce or at your next university?

A: The ability to prepare is by far one of the greatest skills I picked up here at NVC. Whether it be prepping for tests, projects, events, or even opportunities, I've learned the importance of being prepared and ready for what the world throws at you. With a little consistency, planning, and dedication, you can truly make amazing things happen.

Q: If a friend or family member were considering college, what is the No. 1 reason you would recommend Northwest Vista College?

A: There's a great amount of resources and opportunities here. From scholarships, financial aid, to even just social events. There are so many ways to grow and learn and for that I am extremely grateful.

I've made so many wonderful friends, and connections here at Vista. I'm extremely grateful to the professors I've met that have inspired me to take on my future. At the end of the day, the bottom line is when opportunity knocks, Vista prepares you to answer the door.
