Student Learning Outcomes Statements

San Antonio College has four associate degree programs:

The Alamo Colleges include in the core curriculum courses that meet the core objectives outlined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, referred to as Marketable Skills at San Antonio College.

 

Core Objectives

Critical Thinking Skills icon Critical Thinking Skills – creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of information
Communication Skills icon Communication Skills – effective development, interpretation, and expression of ideas through written, oral, and visual communication
Empirical and Quantitative Skills icon Empirical and Quantitative Skills – manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions
Teamwork icon Teamwork – ability to consider different points of view and work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal
Social Responsibility icon Social Responsibility – intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities
Personal Responsibility icon Personal Responsibility – ability to connect choices, actions, and consequences to ethical decision-making

 

Additional Marketable Skills

Additionally, the college has identified the following as core objectives and marketable skills:

Leadership icon Leadership – A student will maintain a productive work environment and confidently motivate others to meet high performance standards.
Performance icon Performance – A student will create artistic or technical demonstrations through self-expression, language, technology, and/or learned skills.

The core curriculum specifics are provided in the catalog for the student’s use in selecting courses that align with any receiving institution’s requirements. Students should note their transfer university’s freshman and sophomore requirements, as core curriculum courses required in specific majors/pre-majors may satisfy both core curriculum and major requirements at a university.
