NVC Caring Campus

The Caring Campus Initiative, developed by the Institute for Evidence-Based Change (IEBC), is designed to create a college environment that increases students’ sense of connectedness and belonging and, in turn, completion of each student’s education goals.
The NVC VISTA Cares Committee engages NVC employees to create a Caring Campus to promote student success and retention. It is particularly important for students from historically underserved populations, students less familiar with college, non-majority students, students from low-income households, and first-generation students to feel welcome and that they belong in college.

The VISTA Cares Committee will focus on the following five commitments to support student success and retention at NVC:
Cross-Department Awareness
Encourage communication across departments to cultivate belonging, clarify roles, and improve the accuracy of resources for students.
Remember the 10-foot Rule
Greet and offer help (if applicable) to anyone within a 10-foot radius to build a welcoming environment, foster connection, and reduce anxiety.
First Week Greetings
Attend Wildcat Days and other events during the first week of each semester and term. Help new students find their way around and introduce them to the areas and departments of campus.
Wear Name Tags / Identification
Wear name tags or lanyards to enhance connection, approachability, and build trust.
Engage with Warm Referrals
Call ahead or escort students to the office they need to visit. This demonstrates care, builds networks, and ensures students feel supported.
