The Ceremony 

San Antonio College offers one Commencement Ceremony every year, and it is not mandatory. December, Spring, and Summer candidates for graduation are invited to participate in the May ceremony. Traditionally, the date falls on the second Saturday of May. Graduates who want to attend the ceremony should complete the graduation application process by the stated deadlines. Learn more.

Time:  The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.  Doors open to the public at 9 a.m.

Can I attend commencement even if I haven't received my final grades?

Yes. Candidates may attend even though final grades are not posted.  Spring/Summer candidates' records will be reviewed after final grades are posted. Remember, participation in Commencement does not guarantee fulfillment of requirements or that a degree will be awarded. 

Where do I park at the ceremony?

Reserved parking is available for students at the Freeman Coliseum during SAC's Commencement Ceremony.

SAC will provide one free parking pass for students when they pick up their camp and gown. 

There is a nominal fee for guest parking, and it is cash only.

How do I get my cap and gown?

Student Caps and Gowns can be picked up in the Moody Learning Center, Room TBD during the week of Monday, March 30, 2020 through Wednesday, April 3, 2020 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Plan on trying on the regalia before you leave the building.

**Students can still pick up their cap & gown at Admissions and Records until April 30, 2020 but their names may not appear in the graduation booklet.


How can I get an official picture at Commencement?

A professional photographer from Flash Photography will be present during the graduation ceremony to take color pictures of individuals as they receive their diplomas.  Only the officially designated photographer will be permitted on stage during the ceremony. The photographer will notify participants regarding pictures.

When will I get my diploma?

Diploma covers are issued at the commencement ceremony containing a statement about the diplomas.  Diplomas are printed after the final review of grades each term. 

Degrees should be posted in ACES 30 days after graduation.

Diplomas will be mailed 60 days after graduation.

In order to receive your diploma, verify your address prior to the end of the semester you are graduating. Directions for verifying your address are listed below:

Log in to ACES

  • Select the "Student" tab
  • Select "Personal Information"
  • Click on "Update Addresses and Phones"
  • Update your existing address and phone numbers by selecting the link next to the corresponding address and phone information.
Is there a cost for graduation and commencement?

Graduation is free.  There is no cost to the student to apply, for the diploma or for cap and gown.

Are tickets required for commencement?

Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
