HHM EVENT OCTOBER 7

HHM EVENT OCTOBER 7

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Northwest Vista College (NVC) and the Westside Education and Training Center (WETC) announce the Crossroads to Success! ¡Caminos al éxito! event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the WETC at 610 SW 41st Street.

Amid higher gas prices, limited direct public transportation, and the uptick in inflation, NVC and the WETC are working to bring affordable higher education to the Westside community. With 22% of residents in the area having an associate’s degree or less, and only 3% with a bachelor’s degree, the WETC location is accessible for area residents to advance their education and earn job-training skills.

Prospective students, parents, and families are invited to visit with college representatives and community leaders who will be available at the Crossroads to Success! ¡Caminos al éxito! event to share success stories and provide information on access to college and the city’s Ready to Work SA program.

This family-centered event includes history from the community, stories from the Westside, a poetry reading by Poet/Professor Natalia Treviño, and cultural activities such as music and dance performances, and art construction for the community. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m., speakers and activities run until the 12 p.m. lunch. Recruitment activities are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the event closes.

Northwest Vista College (NVC) offers academic courses and its Community Health Worker program at the WETC - which also provides assistance in careers services, adult literacy, and GED preparation and testing.
