The International Education Scholarship (IES) is available to all current Alamo Colleges District students who will be participating in an Alamo Colleges District approved Study Abroad program.

Study Abroad programs include faculty-led programs, third-party affiliated provider programs, and exchange programs.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Currently enrolled at any of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District (Students not enrolled at the  Alamo Colleges District are not eligible)

  2. Completed or are in process of completing a minimum of 12 academic credit hours by the time of travel

  3. Good academic standing

  4. Must be cleared from all Financial Aid holds

  5. Enrolled in a Study Abroad program
    • Summer programs 3 hours; Fall or Spring Semester programs 12 hours

  6. Have a minimum cumulative Alamo Colleges District 2.5 GPA

  7. Must not have previously received the International Education Scholarship


Application Checklist

  • COMPLETED APPLICATION

  • STATEMENT OF PURPOSE  ESSAY
    • The essay should be 400 words minimum, typed (12point, Times New Roman font), double spaced and should describe the following:
      • How the study abroad program will help you achieve your academic goals
      • How your study abroad program will impact your future career success

  • SERVICE PROJECT ESSAY
    • Students are required to complete a service project upon returning from their Study Abroad Program.  Prepare an essay that describes your service project.  The essay should be 300 words minimum, typed (12 point, Times New Roman) and double-spaced and should include the following:
Project description and how your project would enhance study abroad opportunities for Alamo Colleges District students.

Your project will be monitored by the Office of International Programs. Project may include the following:

  • Act as Student Ambassador for the Office of International Programs:  Study Abroad
  • Volunteer at Study Abroad 101 Sessions
  • Present at New Student Orientations
  • Volunteer at Study Abroad Fairs - scheduled in the Fall
  • Present at Pre-Departure Orientations – to offer advice to respective students studying abroad
  • Post flyers on campus
  • Create a PowerPoint or video to be used to promote study abroad programs in the classrooms.  Class presentations (minimum 4)
