BECOMING A DISPATCHER

This role reports to the District Department of Public Safety.

- Communicates, via two-way police radio and telephone, to dispatch Alamo Colleges
District’s police and security officers to any campus or district location upon request. - Assists callers and visitors with district police tickets, appeals, police report copies, and
general information; clears student records in system - Prepares log sheets of all incoming and outgoing calls and radio traffic.
- Keeps daily police and daily towed log blotters; records DPS reports and case numbers.
- Uses National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System to check on criminal records and backgrounds; enters stolen vehicles and information concerning suspects.
- Handles lost property; assigns case numbers; attempts to identify and contact owner.
- Prepares dispatch schedules and memos; maintains daily towing blotter.
- Serves as dispatch coordinator.
- May issue temporary parking permits.
- May perform general clerical duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED)
Preferred Education:
- Some college
- Formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration and one year of related job experience
- One year of experience including some experience with radio communications and computers.
Other Requirements:
- Six months of experience in a position that required public contact, reception duties, dispatching, or related duties.
