From New Beginnings to New Opportunities: Eimy’s Journey to Confidence and Growth at PAC
February 5, 2026

Any move, big or small, can be challenging, but it can also open the door to new opportunities.
Five years ago, when Eimy Lumbreras Ramirez relocated to San Antonio, she was not only adjusting to new surroundings but also beginning to shape a vision for her future.
As a Burbank High School graduate, Eimy learned she was eligible to have 100% coverage of her tuition and fees through AlamoPROMISE and realized that the Alamo Colleges District (ACD) was the ideal place to begin her college journey.
For many students, navigating the admissions process can feel overwhelming. Eimy credits the Palo Alto College (PAC) Welcome Center for helping her navigate the process successfully. With guidance and encouragement, including support from the Welcome Center Enrollment Coach Team Leader, Evelyn Gonzalez, Eimy felt confident taking her next steps.
Now majoring in Criminal Justice and maintaining a 2.94 GPA, Eimy’s time at PAC has helped her grow academically and personally. Born in Eagle Pass and raised in Morelos, Coahuila, Mexico, Spanish was her first language. Despite this challenge, Eimy persevered to make herself proud by completing her English II course.
"English is not my first language, and although I still have moments where expressing myself is challenging, I am proud of the progress I’ve made and the confidence I’ve gained,” said Eimy.
Eimy’s dedication and resilience were celebrated when she was recognized as the January 2026 AlamoPROMISE Student of the Month at the January ACD Board of Trustees Meeting. She was introduced by the Palo Alto College president, Dr. Robert Garza, who highlighted her journey and determination. While accepting her recognition, Eimy expressed her appreciation for the honor.
“It is with great emotion and gratitude that I receive the news of having been selected as AlamoPROMISE Student of the Month,” said Eimy. She added, “It fills me with pride to know that all my struggles and dedication have been recognized.”
She went on to thank the AlamoPROMISE program and the Alamo Colleges District for providing support and resources not only to her, but to all students striving to move forward and achieve their dreams.
Eimy’s parents were in attendance at the meeting, and in a touching moment, she addressed them directly in Spanish. “I would like to add gratitude for my family for accompanying me on this journey. You always wanted the best for me and to be strong and not to be afraid.”
Looking ahead, Eimy plans to complete her studies at Palo Alto College and is considering either enlisting in the United States Air Force or transferring to The University of Texas at San Antonio to further her education. Ultimately, she hopes to pursue a career in criminal justice.
Eimy credits Palo Alto College and the AlamoPROMISE program for fostering her academic and personal growth and for opening doors to new opportunities, proving that with support, perseverance, and courage, students can achieve more than they ever imagined.
