The Alamo Colleges District has received the 2025 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award from Insight Into Academia magazine.

The Alamo Colleges will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the September 2025 issue of Insight Into Academia magazine.

“At the Alamo Colleges District, we know that mental health and well-being are central to student success,” said Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. “That’s why we continue to expand innovative, compassionate support systems to ensure every student has the tools they need to thrive. We’re honored that Insight Into Academia has recognized this important work, which reflects our moonshot of ending poverty through education and training.”

Insight Into Academia magazine selected the Alamo Colleges for aligning mental health and student success initiatives and for being committed to developing a tailored action plan to improve student mental health and, in turn, boost student success across its colleges.

Among the mental health services offered, the Alamo Colleges District offers free short-term and crisis counseling to enrolled students, with referrals to external providers for long-term care. Licensed staff support is provided to students as a resource to students with challenges like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief, helping them balance personal issues and academic responsibilities.

In addition, students have 24/7 access to virtual mental health care through TimelyCare, a free platform available via app or desktop for secure phone or video visits, and affordable healthcare is available for Alamo Colleges District students through a partnership with UT Health San Antonio’s Wellness 360 program.

“We know that institutions are not always recognized for their dedication to their mental health and well-being services and support for their students and employees,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. “We are proud to honor these colleges and universities as role models for other higher education institutions.”
