The Alamo Colleges District proudly marked its Heritage Day by honoring 80 years of service, transformation, and commitment to the community. The milestone celebration – held on Wednesday, November 12 – brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners, and community members to reflect on the district’s remarkable journey and the impact the district continues to make in creating pathways to education.

Morning Árbol de la Vida Reception

The morning began with an intimate reception to thank renowned artist Veronica Castillo for her commissioned work of art, which represents our journey and future. The Árbol de la Vida: Revolución de la Educaciónserves as a living testament to who we are as a district and a community. The group also had the opportunity to hear an inspiring story from Palo Alto College student Molly Flores, who contributed to the art piece.

To provide a closer look at the creative journey behind this sculpture, a short documentary was created in honor of this project. The Árbol de la Vida: Revolución de la Educación is on display in ACCESS lobby.

Heritage Day Celebration

The celebration continued as we honored the moment that started it all—the day the votes were canvassed in 1945, officially forming what was then known as the San Antonio Union Junior College District. The St. Philip’s College Tiger Cheer Squad kick-started the event and continued with a special reflection from Palo Alto College alumna, Gabby Rangel. The ceremony concluded with an exceptional performance by the San Antonio College Student Jazz Ensemble.
