While attending CAST Tech High School as a Dual Credit student, Edward Boehm explored interests, including cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, and (UX) website design. Although Edward excelled in these areas, the isolation he experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic helped him discover his desire to pursue a career focusing on connecting with others.

“I learned that I have a love for working with people. Making someone's day that much better brings me joy,” said Edward.

After learning about AlamoPROMISE, a scholarship that covers 100% of tuition and fees for eligible students, Edward decided to continue his education with the Alamo Colleges District (ACD) at St. Philip’s College (SPC) in the Hospitality Management Program.

Like many students during and after the pandemic, Edward struggled with the transition to higher education, especially as a first-generation college student.

“At the time I began college, many courses and students were remote, and I struggled to grasp any concept,” said Edward. “I had to overcome this by learning how I best excel at learning and how to handle stressful situations.”

With support from professors like David Uminski, Hospitality Management Program Director, Edward has successfully navigated his studies and currently holds a 3.72 GPA.

Beyond academics, Edward serves as a Peer Mentor in the Turbon Student Center, providing students with information about academic resources, student leadership opportunities, and campus life events.

“Being able to assist and guide students is an amazing opportunity and truly connects me with the campus community,” said Edward.

In addition to his Peer Mentor position, Edward was involved in SPC’s theatrical production of FAME, earned a Certificate in Small Business, and was awarded a Student Engagement Grant.

Edward was recognized as the AlamoPROMISE Student of the Month for his achievements and involvement at the ACD Board of Trustees Meeting in August 2025. During his acceptance speech, Edward thanked his family and the SPC community for their support during his college journey.

He also expressed his gratitude for being an AlamoPROMISE Scholar and achieving his academic and personal goals without financial burden.

After graduation, Edward plans to transfer to the University of Texas at San Antonio to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management and one day operate his own hotel chain.
