Alamo Colleges District Earns National Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
February 10, 2026
The Alamo Colleges District has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the only national awards program that recognizes excellence in governmental budgeting.
The award reflects the work of the district’s leadership and staff to ensure its budget is not only financially sound, but also clear, accessible, and aligned with institutional priorities. To receive the award, the district’s budget document met nationally recognized guidelines and was rated proficient in four key areas: as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications tool. The budget also satisfied 14 required criteria within those categories.
“This recognition affirms our commitment to being responsible stewards of the public trust,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “Every budget decision we make is about expanding opportunity for our students and strengthening the communities we serve. This honor reflects the integrity, and care our budget team brings to this work every day in support of our moonshot.”
Established in 1984, the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program encourages governments to produce high-quality budget documents that meet best practices in public finance. More than 1,900 governments across North America participate in the program, including states, cities, counties, school districts, and special districts. Award recipients are recognized for setting a strong example in effective budgeting and financial communication.
