The San Antonio Peace Center is entering an exciting new phase, growing to become a shared resource for the entire Alamo Colleges District. Stewarded by the Arts, Culture, and Community Impact team, the Peace Center will now extend its reach and capacity districtwide and across the city.

This expansion aligns with major national recognition: The Aspen Institute’s Weave Project selected the Alamo Colleges District as one of only 25 Community Host organizations nationwide for the 2026 Weaver Awards.

As part of this recognition, the Alamo Colleges will receive $225,000 in funding and multi-year national support to recognize and uplift everyday “weavers” — neighbors and organizations who repair social fabric, strengthen relationships, and foster belonging in their communities.

Through the San Antonio Peace Center, the Weaver Awards will launch locally. This initiative is designed to provide awards to small nonprofits and grassroots leaders.

Applications will open this summer, with additional details and information sessions to be announced soon.

Founded in 1994 under the leadership of Rosalyn Falcón Collier, Susan Ives, and Rev. Ann E. Helmke, the San Antonio Peace Center has served as a local and global leader in advancing peace and compassion. For nearly three decades, the Peace Center has convened community healing spaces. It has elevated local voices and supported grassroots leaders working to strengthen trust, belonging, and social connection across San Antonio.

Since making its home at Northwest Vista College in 2022, the Peace Center has continued hallmark initiatives, including the San Antonio Peace Laureate program, youth and student peace and international compassion learning experiences, and community convenings addressing violence prevention. Its mission remains unchanged — and its ability to serve San Antonio will only grow.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Impact and Leadership

This vision expands opportunity, strengthens community connection, and continues to position the Alamo Colleges District as a national leader in advancing belonging and collective well-being.
