Aida Garcia is balancing parenting, full-time work, and college—one determined step at a time.

Aida knew she had more to contribute to her future and career. She had the experience, the work ethic, and the drive—but she didn’t have the degree. After years of working full-time and raising her children, she realized it was time to return to school and finish earning her degree.

“I knew it was time to return to college when I felt stuck in my role. I wanted to move up, but I needed that degree.”

Aida is pursuing her Associate of Business Management degree online through St. Philip’s College in the Alamo Colleges District.

As a mother of three, she’s not just earning a degree for herself—she’s doing it for her kids, especially her youngest daughter.

“My daughter was a big reason I returned. I want to show her—and my sons—that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

Being a first-generation college student is a source of pride for Aida. She wants her children to grow up seeing college as a reachable opportunity.

Why Business Management Was the Right Fit

With years of hands-on administrative experience behind her, business felt like the natural next step. Aida had already proven she could lead and support teams in her workplace.

“I have real-world experience, but I want to grow in my career and eventually run a department. Business management gives me that path forward.”

When she began researching programs, Aida found access to the right one—online. Living outside of San Antonio with a full-time job and three kids, returning to campus wasn’t an option. AlamoONLINE at St. Philip’s College gave her the structure and support to make college work for her life.

How Aida Thrived in Online Learning

Aida credits her success to staying organized, keeping a detailed calendar, and never losing sight of why she started. While that first semester was tough, she now has a rhythm—and a routine—that keeps her on track. She also praises her online instructors, who she says are quick to respond and genuinely invested in her success.

“They know we’re online students and have busy lives. When I have a question, they respond quickly—and that makes a big difference.”

With graduation in sight, so is the next chapter. Aida plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree—and maybe even open her own business.

Her Advice for Others Thinking About College

If you’re waiting for the perfect time to go back to school, Aida says, don’t wait. There’s no perfect moment—only your decision to start.

“Just go for it. It might feel overwhelming at first, but once you get into a routine, it’s all worth it.”
