Program Requirements

Gain hands-on experience through field observations, professional development, and a paid internship or clinical teaching experience, all leading to Texas Educator Certification (Grades 4–8 Core Subjects with Science of Teaching Reading).

Principles of Teaching EC-12

48 Hours

This course is designed to help examinees prepare to become a classroom teacher and successfully pass the EC-12 Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities TExES exam. This course is aligned to the Texas Educator Standards outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC ) 228, 30.

Topics include basic concepts of planning, teaching, and related content-specific pedagogy. In this course, we will learn about evidence-based practices in planning and delivering instruction and in establishing a supportive, productive classroom environment for diverse learners.

Digital Literacy

32 Hours

The Digital Literacy course is guided by the International Society for Technology in Education Standards for Educators and the Texas Technology Applications EC-12 standards. Topics include: Google Workspace for Education, Google Classroom, Technology Integration, Digital Learning Tools, Digital Skills Application, Assessment Data, Professional Development, and Law/Ethics/Equity. This class will explore Professional Learning Networks for you to join to keep moving forward in your  educational technology skill set.

Mathematics

32 Hours

This course is designed to help examinees prepare to become a classroom teacher and successfully pass the Mathematics TExES exam. The course is aligned to the Texas Educator Standards outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC ) 228, 30. Topics include basic concepts of planning, teaching, and content-specific knowledge and skills.

Science

32 Hours

This course is designed to help examinees prepare to become a classroom teacher and successfully pass the Science TExES exam. The course is aligned to the Texas Educator Standards outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC ) 228, 30. Topics include basic concepts of planning, teaching, and content-specific knowledge and skills.

Foundations of Reading

48 Hours

This course is designed to help examinees prepare to become a classroom teacher and successfully pass the ELAR and Science of Teaching Reading TExES exams. The course is aligned to the Texas Educator Standards outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC ) 228, 30. Topics include basic concepts of planning, teaching, and content-specific knowledge and skills.

Social Studies

32 Hours

This course is designed to help examinees prepare to become a classroom teacher and successfully pass the Social Studies TExES exam. The course is aligned to the Texas Educator Standards outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC ) 228, 30. Topics include basic concepts of planning, teaching, and content-specific knowledge and skills.

Differentiation & Special Populations

16 Hours

This course is designed to provide Texas classroom teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively differentiate instruction. The material covered will help future teachers understand the importance of differentiating instruction for all students, as well as how to differentiate for special populations.

Professional Development

32 Hours

Educator candidates participate in professional development to help prepare them for teaching in a Texas classroom. Professional development includes but is not limited to FERPA, special education, 504, gifted and talented, T-TESS, mental health, and technology.

Field/Clinical/Internship

50 Hours

Educator candidates focus on learning how to participate in professional learning communities while demonstrating leadership with students, colleagues, and community members in the school, the district and the community through effective communication & outreach.

Teacher candidates will identify and use resources available for planning and designing interactive Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills-based lessons with an emphasis on specific content methodology while ensuring all TEA requirements are met.
