Internship Application Workshops

Most paid competitive regional and national college internships are available in the summer, with applications due between December and early March each year, and internships starting in late May or early June. Review your options at this List of Internship Opportunities to plan, and create a list of items required for applications about six months before applications are due.

The Office of Workplace Learning offers in-depth internship application workshops to guide currently-enrolled Alamo Colleges students to prepare competitive applications.

The Internship Application Workshops are interactive sessions in which you will learn about the organization to which you are applying and how to navigate their website. To benefit fully from attending these workshops, become familiar with the organization’s website, the opportunities available, and the documents required before attending a workshop. The workshop attendees must bring a hard copy of their resume, in the required format, to the workshop where resumes will be peer-reviewed. You are welcome to attend multiple workshops if you intend to apply to various opportunities.

During the Internship Workshops, you will

  • Learn how to navigate the internship website
  • Give and receive peer feedback on your resume
  • Understand the difference between a letter of recommendation and references
  • Discuss how to request letters of recommendation (as applicable)
  • Review the elements of a quality cover letter (as applicable)
  • Share ideas for how to respond to essay prompts (as applicable)
  • Review what to write in your Letter of Interest (as applicable)
