Remembering September 11: 25 Years Later

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — a day that forever changed our nation and the lives of millions of people.

Across the Alamo Colleges District, our colleges will commemorate the anniversary through the following events:

St. Philip’s College

Sept. 11 at 7:46 a.m. | MLK Campus Heritage Pavilion and virtually from the Southwest Campus Tiger Bistro

St. Philip’s College will recognize the families of those lost on September 11 and those who have since passed as a result of injuries and exposure during recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Palo Alto College 

Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. | Central Courtyard

The Palo Alto College community will gather to remember the families of those lost on September 11, as well as those who later died from injuries and exposure related to the recovery and rebuilding efforts that followed the attacks.

San Antonio College 

Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. | SAC Mall behind the Fletcher Administration Building

Hosted by the First Responders Academy, the annual ceremony honors the lives lost in the attacks and recognizes the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call that day.

Northeast Lakeview College 

Sept. 14 at 8:46 a.m. | Flag Pole Circle

The ceremony will honor the first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Live Oak Mayor Mary Dennis will provide remarks, and Northeast Lakeview College will also recognize a local first responder for their commitment to the college and the surrounding community.

This anniversary carries special meaning for a new generation of students who were not yet born on September 11, 2001. Northwest Vista College faculty will be featured in an upcoming San Antonio Express-News story scheduled to publish this weekend that discusses how educators remember that day and discuss its significance with students who know 9/11 through their families, classrooms, books, and memorials.

As the nation marks this 25th anniversary, the Alamo Colleges District encourages our faculty, staff, and students to take a moment to remember those whose lives were lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and reflect on the strength we find when we come together as a community.
