Alamo Colleges District Trustees Honored at 2026 ACCT Leadership Congress
October 26, 2026
Two Alamo Colleges District trustees were honored for their leadership and service during the 2026 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Leadership Congress in Chicago.
Dr. Gene Sprague, District 6 trustee and Board Assistant Secretary, was recognized for his lifetime of achievement in community college leadership. Dr. Clint Kingsbery, District 8 trustee and immediate past Board Chair, received the 2026 M. Dale Ensign Trustee Leadership Award, ACCT’s national honor recognizing outstanding trustee leadership.
First elected to the Board in 1994, Sprague has helped shape educational opportunities across the region for more than three decades. He was instrumental in establishing Northwest Vista College and was elected Board Assistant Secretary in June 2026.
Alongside his service to the District, Sprague served as a professor of cardiology at UT Health San Antonio for 43 years. He holds a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, a master’s degree in reproductive biology from Colorado State University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northwestern University. He has received numerous professional awards and authored many articles for scientific publications.
Kingsbery’s national recognition followed his selection as the Western Region Trustee Leadership Award recipient, placing him among five regional honorees considered for the national award.
These honors reflect both trustees’ longstanding commitment to leadership, service and student success, strengthening the Alamo Colleges District and the communities it serves.
ACCT’s annual Leadership Congress brings together community college trustees, presidents and education leaders from across the country to share strategies for strengthening their institutions and expanding opportunities for students.
A nonprofit educational organization, ACCT represents more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees serving on more than 500 governing boards of community, technical and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.
