Every GL Designated Course helps students develop one or more of the Alamo Global Competencies, preparing them to work effectively across cultures and communities.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. A course undergoes significant revision and must be approved by curriculum committees and the Faculty Senate before receiving the GL designation. Taking a course prior to its designation does not satisfy the requirement.
No, you may select an elective GL course from any discipline. However, we recommend working with your academic advisor, since many degree plans already include discipline-specific GL courses that satisfy both your major and GL requirements simultaneously.

GL designated courses transfer the same as any other course. Confirm transferability with your intended university and check the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) for equivalencies.

What qualifies a course for GL designation?
Global Learning Outcomes
Include at least one formally stated learning outcome that addresses an Alamo Global Competency.
Curriculum Internationalization
Embed global and intercultural content throughout the course, rather than limiting it to a single unit or optional module.
Assessment Alignment
Include at least one assessment that measures the global learning outcome and appears in the course syllabus and supporting documentation.
Course Integration
Design the course so that global learning is intentionally woven into instruction, activities, and student engagement.

Attend the Global Foundations Workshop
Our Foundations workshop helps faculty understand global competencies, integration strategies, and assessment design before revising a course.
Complete the GLDC Application
Download and complete the GLDC designation application. Include your revised syllabus with updated outcomes and assessments.
Faculty Working Group Review
Your submission is reviewed by the Faculty Working Group for Curriculum Internationalization for feedback and approval.
Curriculog Approval
After Faculty Working Group approval, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Success confirms the designation, and the course is added to the district-wide GL course list and student course scheduler.
