The Alamo Colleges District has been named Northside ISD’s Outstanding Business or Community Organization Partner of the Year for the secondary school level, recognizing its longstanding partnership with the district and its ongoing support of students at Sul Ross Middle School.
The recognition was presented during Northside ISD’s Annual Outstanding Partner of the Year event, held as part of National Volunteer Month. The event celebrated the hundreds of volunteers, mentors, business partners, and community organizations whose service enriches the lives of thousands of NISD students each year.
This year’s celebration recognized eight district-wide award winners and two Superintendent’s Award honorees. For the first time, all 164 nominees walked across the stage and were recognized by NISD Superintendent Dr. John Craft, members of the NISD Board of Trustees, family members, and friends.
The Alamo Colleges District was recognized for its partnership with Sul Ross Middle School, in which the district helped sustain in-person tutoring for students through its community work-study program.
Through the program, eligible Alamo Colleges students serve as tutors at Sul Ross Middle School, providing academic support, encouragement, and near-peer mentorship to students in the campus’s AVID college-preparedness program. Sul Ross serves around 800 students, with about 250 enrolled in AVID, a program designed to help students build college-going skills such as note-taking, organization, GPA awareness, resume development, and college application preparation.
The Alamo Colleges District was honored alongside several other community partners and volunteers recognized for their service to Northside ISD students, including John Jay Student Council, Straus PTA, Nallely Carillo, Lesford Dixon, Bill Taylor of KENS 5, Dr. Lydia Bartlett of St. Mary’s University, American Legion Post 336, Calvin Buchholtz, and Barnes & Noble.
This recognition reflects the Alamo Colleges District’s continued commitment to strengthening educational pathways and partnering with local school districts to help students see college as part of their future.
