Zachry Corporation Supports Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District with $2 Million Gift

The Alamo Colleges District held a special ceremony on Wednesday, September 16, to celebrate a generous $2 million gift from Zachry Corporation. This contribution will support the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges- District Northeast Lakeview College campus. The collaboration between Alamo Colleges District, Texas A&M University and Zachry Corporation aims to create an affordable and accessible route for future engineers, addressing a vital workforce need in Texas.

"The Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District expands access to a world-class engineering education while allowing students to remain connected to their communities. We are grateful to Zachry Corporation for investing in the next generation of engineers and helping more students pursue opportunities that will strengthen Texas for years to come.”

Zachry Corporation’s $2 million donation highlights Alamo Colleges District’s and the Engineering Academies’ dedication to providing affordable and accessible higher education for students. Funds will be utilized for scholarships, to enhance program resources and improve student services.

About the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District

The Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District, the first program of its kind, allows students to co-enroll at the Northeast Lakeview College location and Texas A&M. Students complete their foundational courses at Northeast Lakeview College, benefiting from small class sizes, personalized support, and state-of-the-art facilities before transitioning to Texas A&M to complete their engineering degrees.

“The success of the Engineering Academies is measured by the success of our students,” said Dr. Robert H. Bishop, vice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering. "This program equips aspiring engineers with the technical knowledge, practical experience and support they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving workforce. Zachry Corporation's investment will help expand opportunities for future engineers while strengthening the talent pipeline that is essential to Texas' continued growth and competitiveness."

Since its launch in 2018, the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College, has enrolled 419 students, with 73 graduates since 2022, the first possible graduation for students from the Alamo Colleges District Engineering Academy. Currently, 198 students remain enrolled at Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College or Texas A&M.

The San Antonio-New Braunfels region added 10,100 jobs over the past year, according to Workforce Solutions Alamo, reflecting continued demand for skilled talent across the region. More than 154,000 engineers are employed across Texas, with engineering employment projected to grow 1.8% annually, in line with the state’s overall job growth. The Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Alamo Colleges District helps support the workforce demands by creating an accessible pathway for more students in the San Antonio area to pursue engineering degrees and careers.
