Discipline Discussions

About Discipline Discussions

For the first time in Alamo Colleges’ history, faculty members are conducting coursework in a remote learning environment. Faculty, along with department chairs and deans, are in a position to rethink and redesign assessment strategies for many courses—especially with the quickly approaching finals. Discipline Discussions provide all of the stakeholders an opportunity to gather around the virtual discussion table.

With the Alamo Colleges’ goal to put faculty in the best position to succeed, the Vice Presidents of Academic Success have adopted a three-phase plan. This plan includes:

  • Phase 1: Facilitating Discipline Discussions on assessment strategies
  • Phase 2: Presenting webinars on assessment strategies
  • Phase 3: Providing on-demand support to faculty who are designing assessments for remote delivery

Overview of Discipline Discussions, April 21–24

Instructional Innovation Center staff, Instructional Designers, and Faculty Development team members will facilitate approximately 30 discussions to:

  • Encourage active engagement by asking faculty to share their ideas for remote finals
  • Create opportunities for reflection on what is needed to act on those ideas
  • Focus attention on possible assessment strategies that can address the problem to be solved (remote finals)
  • Collect ideas based on faculty input
  • Share promising assessment strategies
  • Prepare to provide direct continued support to faculty as they prepare for remote finals
