International Partnerships
International partnerships are a core component of an institution’s comprehensive internationalization plan. The Alamo Colleges District has a formalized process for strategically identifying, vetting, nurturing, and dissolving relationships with foreign university partners who collaborate across the five colleges. This process aligns with the office’s Measurement and Evaluation procedure for understanding best practices for assessing the relevance of opportunities offered by the Office and aligns with partnership guidelines established by NAFSA and the Institute for International Education (IIE).
E.1.8.3 (Procedure) International Programs: Measurement and Evaluation
Defining Partnership
An international partner of the Alamo Colleges District is an institution, agency, or entity that is based outside of the U.S. or that focuses on work and initiatives specific to entities outside the U.S. that engage with faculty or staff across the district to fulfill an educational goal or complete an educational program for the benefit of the diverse communities served by the Alamo Colleges District. These entities can include colleges or universities, embassies, consulates, governments, international associations, or government-related entities.
Becoming a Partner
Alamo Colleges District prioritizes partnerships with entities whose mission and values align with those of the Alamo Colleges. Formalized partnerships require an agreement, and agreements are established with entities that:
- Seek collaboration to grow the capacity of students, faculty, and/or the local San Antonio or international community
- Offer multi-faceted and multidisciplinary opportunities to collaborate
- Propose programs or activities for which faculty and students are interested
- Pose low-to-no program risk for all participants
Complete the Partnership Inquiry Form to begin the vetting process.

Global Transfer Pathways
The Alamo Colleges District works with select international partners to offer global transfer pathways for students who successfully complete a degree program with one of the colleges and who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree abroad. To date, two partners offer global transfer pathways for graduating students: the Business and Hospitality Management School (BHMS, Switzerland) and Rennes School of Business (Rennes SB, France). Students wanting more information about these programs can contact the Office of International Programs via email at dst-alamo@alamo.edu. Use subject line: Global Transfer Pathway.

Additional global pathways may be found by visiting the Transfer Abroad Network and clicking on the Students link at the top of the homepage.
Internal Partnerships
The Office of Internal Programs partners across the district to identify and facilitate collaborations that align with the priorities of the colleges. The Office also works with the support services departments to coordinate customized training and specialized activities for foreign university partners across the globe.
International Articulated Programs
International Articulated Programs (IAP) are degree programs in which students from a foreign university partner are enrolled, usually in a cohort, to complete a portion of the degree program at one of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District. Upon completion of the required courses, students graduate from Alamo Colleges with an associates degree. Which courses are required for graduation, the number of semester credit hours needed for residency, and other academic and registration details are determined by the college in which students are enrolled. Institutions wishing to establish an IAP with one of the colleges should contact the Office of International Programs for details.
