Why AGS?

Workforce Readiness

Employers across every industry seek candidates who can work across cultures.

AGS documents those skills on your experiential record, making you a stronger hire from day one.

Transfer Advantage

Four-year universities value demonstrated global engagement.

AGS distinction on your co-curricular transcript signals the intellectual curiosity and initiative transfer institutions seek.

Scholarships & Opportunities

Many scholarships, fellowships, and internship programs seek candidates with documented cultural and global experiences.

AGS gives you that proof.

Global Citizenship

AGS helps you become part of something bigger by developing the awareness, empathy, and skills needed to navigate and contribute to an interconnected world.

Distinction Levels

Three levels. One journey.

Earn miles by participating in qualifying activities. As your miles accumulate, you advance through three levels of distinction – each recognized on your co-curricular transcript in AlamoEXPERIENCE.

Your Journey

How to earn your distinction - Step by Step:

Enroll in the AGS program

Complete the online enrollment form.

You’ll receive a welcome email with access to your dashboard and AlamoEXPERIENCE page, where your miles will be tracked through your journey.

Participate in qualifying activities

Engage in any combination of the qualifying activities above - from enrolling in a GL or COIL course to attending cultural community events or even studying abroad.

Every experience counts.

Track your miles

Log and verify your activities through your AGS dashboard.

Your running mile total will be visible, so you always know where you stand on your journey to distinction.

Reach a milestone - then claim it

Once you’ve accumulated enough miles to reach level 1, 2, or 3, you initiate the recognition process.

Submit a short written reflection that tells the story of your global journey.

Your Reflection: What to write

Your reflection is your opportunity to put your experiences into words for employers, universities, and yourself. Address the following in 100–150 words:

  • What global or intercultural activities did you complete, and what drew you to them?

  • What did you learn about yourself, other cultures, or global issues through these experiences?

  • How have these experiences shaped the way you think, communicate, or approach challenges?

  • How will the skills and perspectives you've gained serve you in your career, studies, or community?

Reflections are submitted through your Canvas AGS page and reviewed by program staff. You may claim recognition at each level you reach - you don’t have to wait until the end.

Receive your distinction & Co-curricular recognition

Begin training and take the next step toward your educational and career goals.

Appears on your AlamoEXPERIENCE co-curricular transcript

Your AGS distinction - Global Citizen, Diplomat, or Ambassador - is added to your official AlamoEXPERIENCE co-curricular transcript.

Share it with employers, include it on transfer applications, and use it when applying for scholarships and fellowships.

Graduate with distinction

Students who complete an AGS level by graduation are recognized at commencement and invited to a special ceremony.

At the ceremony, they receive a distinction medal, either Citizen, Diplomat, or Ambassador.

Each medal reflects a student's commitment to global engagement throughout their time at the Alamo Colleges.

Frequently asked questions

Is AGS open to all Alamo Colleges students?

Yes. Any currently enrolled student at any of the 5 Alamo Colleges is eligible
to enroll in AGS.

Can I count activities I’ve already done before enrolling?

Possibly - use the eligibility checker to see if prior qualifying activities may
count toward your miles.

Contact the Office of International Programs for a
review of your specific experiences.

Do I have to reach Level 3 (Ambassador) to receive recognition?

No. Recognition is awarded at each level - Citizen (18-21 miles), Diplomat (22-25 miles), and Ambassador (26+ miles).

Once you reach any level and submit your reflection, you can claim that distinction.

You may continue building miles and claim higher levels as you reach them

How long does the reflection review take?

Reflections are typically reviewed within two to three weeks of submission.

You will be notified via email once your distinction has been approved and recorded on your co-curricular transcript.

Where does my AGS distinction appear, and who can see it?

Your distinction is recorded on your AlamoEXPERIENCE co-curricular transcript.

You control who you share it with - it’s yours to include in job applications, transfer portfolios, scholarship submissions, and more.

It is separate from your academic transcript.

Can I earn miles from more than one GL course or Community event?

Yes. Miles are cumulative across all qualifying activities.

Each GL course earns you 3 miles upon successful completion, and so on - there is no cap on how many activities you can log.
