Aja Leija is studying business management at SAC, with the goal of transferring to UTSA by Spring of 2023 to complete a bachelor’s degree. Her ultimate goal is to work in operations or program management at a nonprofit organization. She is pursuing her educational and personal goals on her own timeline. This allows her to participate in professional research, volunteering and staying active in her community, along with pursuing her studies at SAC.
Leija’s vision for her role as student trustee is focused on inclusion, encompassing her campus, in all levels of student government and in the community. It also includes an emphasis on communication between students, which she views as the “heart” of the Alamo Colleges, and leadership, to ensure that everyone involved is talking about what is going on in the world. She also wants to ensure that students feel assured that decisions that are happening at their college are being made with them in mind, and that students feel a part of the college community and have the opportunity to thrive.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Leija says she loves living here and that inspires her desire to give back to her community. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering at local food pantries and traveling as often as possible.
