District 6 - Dr. Gene Sprague

Dr. Gene Sprague, a Professor of Cardiology at the UT Health San Antonio (UTHSCSA) for 43 years, has served on the board for 27 years. He was first elected to the board in 1994. Sprague holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, a master's in reproductive biology from Colorado State University and a bachelor's in biology from Northwestern University. He is the recipient of numerous awards in his field and has authored many articles for scientific publications. Sprague was instrumental in the establishment of the Alamo Community College District's, Northwest Vista College.
